Apple Colour Sorting Felt Board Set

Apple Colour Sorting felt Board Magic

This set allows children to sort the apples by colour.

First,  discuss the colour of the apples—red, green and yellow.

Then label the basket either with a colour word card or with a coloured apple.

The children then pick the apples from the tree and sort them by matching them to the colour of the apple on the basket or by the colour word.

This set encourages colour identification, colour sorting and counting and
colour word recognition.

Three Little Pigs

I love folk tales – their simplicity makes them so easy for children to retell.

Today, I am sharing a work in progress – a felt version of the three little pigs.

First, let me introduce the three little pigs:

Three Pigs

and here is the big bad wolf, I’m not entirely happy with him yet:

Big Bad Wolf

I’ve made each of the little pigs houses so that as each house is blown down the the pig can run to the next house, open the door and move in.

Straw House

The straw house is big enough for one pig. But when the big bad wolf blows it down he can run to seek safety the house made from sticks.

Two Pigs in the Stick House

At last all three pigs are safe and sound in the brick house.Three Pigs Safe in the Brick House

Ten Green Bottles Standing on the Wall

Today I am sharing a felt board set for a song that just about everyone knows. This felt set song is super interactive and putting numbers onto the bottles gives you the opportunity to look at numbers, talk about them, put them in sequence and practice counting up to ten and down again.

The bottles are each quite large and so is the wall being 54cm long and 12cm high. The larger size makes this set great to use with larger groups as well for children to use on their own. I’ve used brick patterned patchwork fabric backed with felt to make the wall. So much easier than creating individual bricks and just as effective I think.

There were ten green bottles standing on the wall
Ten green bottles standing on the wall
And if one green bottle should accidently fall
There’ll be nine green bottles standing on the wall

Nine Green Bottles standing on the wall…

Count down until ….

One Green Bottle standing on the wall
One green bottle standing on the wall
And if that green bottle should accidently fall
There’ll be no green bottles standing on the wall

Bees Bees Bees

Today I have two bee rhymes to practice counting counting up to five. I love their heart shaped wings and the three dimensional  texture  produced on the bee hive and bees by using Russia Braid.

Here is the Bee Hive

Here is the bee hive.
Where are the bees?
Hidden away where nobody sees,
Watch, and you’ll see them come out of the hive
One, two, three, four, five.

Five Little Bees

One little bee flew and flew.
He met a friend, and that made …two
Two little bees, busy as could be.,
Along came another and that made… three.
Three little bees, wanted one more,
Found one soon and that made… four.
Four little bees, going to the hive.
Spied their little brother, and that made…  five.
Five little bees working every hour,
Buzz away, bees, and find another flower.

Five Pigs So Squeaky Clean and Five Muddy Pigs

Five Little Muddy Pigs

Inspired by Flannel Friday I have designed such cute fat little pink pigs. Their pink curly tails made from bright pink pipe cleaners (chenille sticks) and expressive faces are delightful. Each pig is 12.5cm x 18 cm ( almost 5 inches x 7 inches) and made from double thickness felt.  Counting to five has never been so fun.  I have two rhymes for playing with pigs based on rhymes found on Flannel Friday, You Tube and others – but I have adapted and modified them so they work a little better (I think).

Muddy Pig

Five Pigs So Squeaky Clean

(Tune “Five Green and Speckled Frogs”)

Five pigs so squeaky clean
Cleanest pigs you’ve ever seen.
Wanted to go outside and play.
Oink! Oink!
One jumped into the mud.
Landed with a great big THUD
Now there are four pigs so squeaky clean.

Four  pigs so squeaky clean…

Three pigs so squeaky clean…

Two pigs so squeaky clean…

One pig so squeaky clean
Cleanest pig you’ve ever seen.
Wanted to go outside and play.
Oink! Oink!
It jumped into the mud.
Landed with a great big THUD
Now there are no pigs so squeaky clean.

Muddy Pigs

Five Muddy Pigs

Tune “Five Little Ducks”)

Five little pigs rolling in the mud
Squishy, squashy. Squishy, squashy. Felt so good
The farmer took one piggy out
Oink, Oink, Oink that pig did shout.

Four little pigs

Three little pigs….

Two little pigs….

One little pig….

No little pigs rolling in the mud
They all looked so clean and good
The farmer turned his back and then
Those pigs rolled in the mud again. Five Little Muddy Pigs
