The Chocolate Chip Ghost
Adapted for the felt board by Kate McKnight
Once upon a time there lived a family of ghosts.
( Put ghosts on the flannel board with their white sides showing—making sure they are in the sequence red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and chocolate chip).
As everyone knows ghosts are white.
When ghosts are little they only eat vanilla ice cream and drink milk.
One day mama ghost went to fridge and there was no vanilla ice cream and no milk left.
So she said to her little ghosts, I am going to the ghost shop to get more ice cream and more milk.
Before she left, she said to her little ghosts “I won’t be long.
Please try not to eat or drink any of the food or drink in the fridge,
Or Something may happen, you never know what.”
After a little while, the first little ghost became very hungry.
He went to the fridge a saw some strawberries.
He thought that just one strawberry couldn’t hurt.
But what do you think happened
(Flip over the first ghost)
He had turned red!
Mama said something would happen, you never know what, and it has.
The little ghost was bright red.
Soon the next little ghost became hungry. He look in the fridge and saw a carrot.
He thought if I just eat a tiny little bite of the carrot it couldn't hurt.
But what do you think happened
(Flip over the next ghost)
He had turned orange!
Mama said something would happen, you never know what, and it has.
The little ghost was orange.
The next little ghost waited and waited but became so hungry that he went to kitchen and found a banana. He started to eat the banana very slowly. But what do you think happened.
(Flip over the next ghost)
He had turned yellow !
Mama said something would happen, you never know what, and it has.
The little ghost was yellow.
The next little ghost went to fridge and found some itsy bitsy, little green peas.
They were so small, surely they couldn’t hurt. So he ate one little crunchy, juicy pea.
But what do you think happened. (Flip over the next ghost)
He had turned green!
Mama said something would happen, you never know what, and it has.
The little ghost was green!
The next little ghost went to fridge and found some teeny tiny blueberries. They were so small, even smaller than the peas. So surely they couldn’t hurt. So he ate one very small blueberry.
But what do you think happened? (Flip over the next ghost)
He had turned blue!
Mama said something would happen, you never know what, and it has.
The little ghost was blue!
The next little ghost was so very thirsty. He looked in the refrigerator and saw some grape juice and thought little sip wouldn't hurt. So he took a one little sip of grape juice.
But what do you think happened? (Flip over the next ghost)
He had turned purple!
Mama said something would happen, and it has.
The little ghost was purple!
The last little ghost was hungry as well. He looked in the freezer and saw some ice cream. It was vanilla with very tiny chocolate chips. He thought that maybe the chocolate chips couldn’t hurt. So he ate a spoon of the yummy chocolate chip ice cream.
But what do you think happened (Flip over the last ghost)
He had turned into a chocolate chip ghost!
Mama said something would happen, you never know what, and it has.
The little ghost was white with brown spots.
Oh no. none of the little ghosts was white anymore. Whatever could they do?
Soon mama came home, she saw her little ghosts and laughed.
Her little ghosts had turned red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and chocolate chipped.
Mama said ”I told you something would happen, and now you know what.
But if you want to be white again, you need eat only vanilla ice cream and milk.
But now, you have the power to become any color you want“.
